How to take Lipitor
Your doctor must decide which dose is right for you. The recommended starting dose for most patients is 10mg or 20 mg once daily. Patients who require a significant reduction in their LDL cholesterol level may need to take more than 20 mg a day. Taking Lipitor with alcohol can be damaging to your liver. Let your doctor know how much alcohol you consume in one day so that he or she can determine whether or not Lipitor is right for you. Also, Lipitor may interact with certain medications including some antibiotics, antifungal medicines, and immunosuppressive medications. Be sure to tell your doctor about all the prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking.
Side effects of Lipitor
Lipitor is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are gas, constipation, stomach pain, and indigestion. If you experience any unusual muscle pain or weakness, stop taking Lipitor and consult with your doctor immediately. This could be a sign of serious a side effect. During your treatment, your doctor may need to perform simple blood tests to monitor your liver function.
