How to take Nicotrol

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you have about this medicine. Spray this medicine in your nose whenever you feel the urge to smoke. A usual dose of this medicine is 1 spray in each nostril. Do not use more than 1 spray in each nostril for a dose without checking with your doctor. DO NOT EXCEED 5 doses per hour or 40 doses per day. DO NOT SNIFF OR INHALE while using this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light.


Nicotrol precautions

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of chest pain or irregular heartbeat. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN under 9 years old is not recommended.

Side effects of Nicotrol

SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include nasal irritation, watering eyes, sneezing, runny nose, throat irritation, coughing, nausea, or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience dizziness, lightheadedness, or an increase in your heart rate (pounding heart). If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

Overdose: If you suspect a Nicotrol overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea; vomiting; excessive saliva; stomach pain; sweating; headache; dizziness; confusion; weakness; fainting; difficulty breathing; seizures; rapid, weak, or irregular heartbeat; blurred vision; diarrhea; and hearing problems.

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
