Serafem description
Sarafem is a prescription medication prescribed by doctors for the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD. PMDD is a severe premenstrual condition that affects nearly 5 percent of women. Women who suffer from PMDD have reported symptoms such as depression, shift in mood, difficulty concentrating, lack of energy, and/or tiredness.
How to take Serafem
Sarafem comes in 10 mg or 20 mg tablets. The normal prescribed dose for Sarafem is one 20 mg tablet a day. Sarafem can be taken with or without food. For best results take Sarafem at the same time each day.
Serafem precautions
Sarafem may affect your central nervous system (CNS). Therefore, use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery. While taking Sarafem you should avoid drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol may increase the likelihood of side effects like dizziness or drowsiness. DO NOT take Sarafem if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past 2 weeks. Also, do not take Sarafem if you are taking thioridazine (Mellaril). Dangerous, even fatal irregular heartbeats may occur if these medications are combined. You must wait 5 weeks after stopping Sarafem before you can take thioridazine (Mellaril) again.
Side effects of Serafem
Common side effects of Sarafem include headache, tremor, nervousness, difficulty concentrating, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, changes in appetite and weight, weakness, increased sweating, decreased sex drive, impotence, sleepiness, and/or insomnia. If you experience an allergic reaction, irregular heartbeat or pulse, low blood pressure, high blood pressure, chills, fever, or unusual bleeding or bruising stop taking Sarafem and seek medical attention.
